Gaps can appear between your teeth as they move over time. Typically, braces are used to correct these caps and to straighten the teeth. However, to correct simple gaps you can use porcelain veneer. Veneers are a thin shell of porcelain that can also be used to brighten your teeth. The end results from the use of porcelain is a natural looking smile with no gaps between the teeth.

Benefits

In addition to fixing gaps between your teeth the use of porcelain veneers also has other benefits. These can be used to uneven teeth and bite correction without needing to grind down the teeth. Veneers do not stain easily which means that you do not need to worry about drinking tea or coffee.

Teeth Preparation

Prior to the application of the porcelain veneer onto your teeth they need to be properly prepared. When the decision to use a veneer is made your dentist will need to remove ½ of a millimeter of enamel off of your teeth. This is equal to the total thickness of the porcelain veneer.

Similar to braces, the process of making a porcelain veneer starts with a mold. The mold is then used to create the porcelain veneer that fits over your teeth. Typically, the process for making the veneer is between 1 and 2 weeks. This procedure will typically be completed once the veneer is delivered to your dentist.

Application

Your dentist will fit the completed veneer to your teeth and make sure it fits properly. A strong adhesive is then applied to the veneer before it is set back in place. This adhesive bonds the veneer to your teeth and prevents it from falling off. However, you should be able to see the veneers in place before they are bonded to your teeth.

Disadvantages

The results of the porcelain veneer is not reversible and will cost more than other options for fixing the gap between teeth. You will not be able to chew on hard objects without risking chipping or cracking a veneer. Typically, a chip or crack in a porcelain veneer cannot be easily repaired.

If you’re over 30 years old, chances are you have had at least one “silver” filling in your life. And anytime you laugh, smile or open wide to take a big bite of something, you reveal those fillings to the world. They’re unattractive, they’re probably going to come loose (nothing is more annoying than losing a silver filling) and, according to many dentists, they’re really not that good for you.

You see, those silver fillings get their color from mercury. While the verdict is still out about the effects mercury fillings may be having on your health, today’s dentists agree that it’s probably better to have them replaced with safer, more natural looking material.

The new, white filling material is less obvious in your mouth. It can be tinted to match the color of your natural teeth. Plus, the new filling material is more durable, and works better with your teeth as they age. It fuses better to the surrounding teeth than the mercury-based material can, so it’s less likely to ever come out, regardless of what you eat.

Even teeth with larger fillings can be treated with porcelain dental inlays or onlays that resemble your actual teeth and match your mouth’s current biting surface.

If replacing your silver fillings reveals a tooth that is on the verge of breaking, your dentist will talk to you about placing a porcelain dental crown. Crowns fit comfortably over the base of your tooth and provide the strength and beauty you expect. While no crown can be guaranteed to last a lifetime, most do. Brush and floss around the crown just as you would with your natural teeth.

Replacing your silver fillings with safer, better-looking white filler is a relatively simple operation for your dentist. Talk with your dentist about your options. Soon, you’ll have a smile that everybody will remember for its brightness, and not its obvious fillings.

Sore, Bleeding Gums

If the gums bleed or are sore when a person brushes their teeth, that’s a sign of periodontal disease. This is the inflammation and the loss of the gums and the other tissue and can lead to the loss of otherwise perfectly healthy teeth. It is, indeed, the major reason for tooth loss. Periodontal disease is shockingly widespread. According to the American Dental Association, more than half of people over eighteen have at least the early stages of gum disease.

Periodontal disease not only makes gums bleed and can lead to tooth loss, but can be painful, cause bad breath and a general sense of malaise. Even people who go to the dentist routinely can have gum disease and not get it treated. Often, the symptoms aren’t that bad, yet. Periodontal disease is insidious and the patient might not seek help for it until there’s much destruction. Some people believe that bleeding gums are normal. Even a dentist can ignore the warning signs of periodontal disease in their patients.

A conscientious dentist will check for the disease by probing the guns with a periodontal probe. This is a probe that’s inserted between the tooth and the gum and measures, by millimeters, how far the gum has receded and if there are “pockets” between the tooth and the gums. The gums may also bleed when the probe is removed. The dentist can also check for periodontal disease by studying X-rays of their patient’s mouth and checking for infection and inflammation. Sometimes the disease can strike suddenly, though this is rare.

Good oral hygiene is the best way to control periodontal disease. Food particles, tartar and plaque must be removed as much as possible from the teeth, for these feed the bacteria that cause gum disease. The dentist should teach the patient how to brush their teeth properly and how to floss. The dentist will have to adjust any dental restorations that can trap food particles. They will also scrape away any plaque and tartar on the teeth, then replace any missing teeth. After this, the patient will have to visit the periodontist from two to six times a year to check their progress.

Broken and missing teeth can cause embarrassment and reduced chewing functionality. Many people with broken and missing teeth have had to endure this unfortunate situation because of the fear of long healing times, extremely painful procedures or excessive associated dental fees. Now a new procedure that has already had great success in Europe is being made available to patients needing dental implants here in the United States.

The procedure is called All-On-4, and it is increasing the availability of implants for those with missing or broken teeth. Previously, implants were a painful multi-step procedure requiring months of recovery because certain anatomical areas required bone grafting to properly anchor the foundation. The All-On-4 is radically different because it eliminates the need for grafting by using mechanical inclination to maximize support utilizing existing bone. By reconfiguring how implants are supported, this newly available procedure dramatically shortens a patient’s recovery time while also saving them thousands of dollars.

Now, patients are able to complete the implantation process in a single day with the All-On-4 procedure. After just one day of recovery, most patients are shocked by the immediate improvements in how they eat and speak. A critical difference in the way the implant foundation is planned has also been a major factor in facilitating these dramatic results. Now, a 3D scan of a patient’s existing bone makes planning the procedure much more effective and accurate.

The All-On-4 is an immediate dental replacement procedure. What this means is that the existing teeth are removed and replaced with the implants in one visit. Previously, patients that required implants would undergo a series of visits and recovery periods. Unfortunately, it was necessary to suffer a period of time using temporary teeth or possibly no teeth after their broken ones had been removed. Since All-On-4 is an immediate procedure, patients are able to leave the same day with their new teeth set and the need for a single healing period. Advantages of this procedure are also evident in the replacement of multiple tooth arches as the quickness of the process prevents misalignments caused by delays between visits.

If you had fillings placed in your teeth when you were a child, they may now be starting to fall apart. Fillings can last more than 30 years in some cases, but they eventually wear out and break. Some of the problems that occur with old fillings include the metal leaking into your mouth and the mercury filling cracking and falling off your tooth. When the mercury gets into your saliva, it causes the tooth and the area surrounding it to start decaying. This is exactly why you had the filling placed in the first place, to prevent decay.

When a filling starts to break apart, it can be some time before you even notice there is a problem. There is typically no pain in the tooth or the rest of your mouth. The first indication you usually have is a mild toothache. By that time, you could be well on your way to losing the tooth or needing extensive dental reconstruction work to retain it. One way to avoid this fate is to have your old fillings examined regularly.

Dental technology has come a long way since your childhood. It is now possible for dentists to fill in teeth with cavities without using any metal at all. He or she uses a porcelain material that is nearly identical in color to your natural teeth. These fillings are bonded directly to the tooth and are durable enough to last for the rest of your life. In most cases, your dentist should be able to place the porcelain filling in just one dental visit. With metal fillings, it usually requires several visits for the dentist to take an impression, create the metal filling and then place it in your mouth.

Ceramic fillings are superior to metal fillings in two ways. First, they have a more natural look, so no one can see the fillings in your teeth. More importantly, the materials they are constructed of are durable enough to never need replacement.

Teeth in an Hour

Smiling is something that most people do naturally. However, many people have missing, broken and unsightly teeth that make them reluctant to smile. In the past, the only option that people had for replacing their teeth was dentures. Dentures do not restore the function of the teeth, which is why many patients are unsatisfied with them.

Why try teeth in an hour?

Teeth in an hour is a procedure that uses dental implants to replace teeth. This is a procedure that is highly specialized and there are few dentists who have the training to perform it. Most people will have to wait months to get a set of replacement teeth. Teeth in an hour allows people to get their new set of teeth within 60 minutes.

Dental implants are a great alternative to traditional dentures. Traditional dentures have to be secured in place and have to be taken in and out of the mouth. The name “teeth in an hour” may sound to good to be true, but it is a quick, easy and permanent solution to loose, broken and missing teeth.

Other benefits of trying teeth in an hour.

*The ability to smile with confidence- People who have lost their teeth do not like to smile because they feel embarrassed. Dental implants look like real teeth so there is no way for other people to tell that a person is wearing dental implants.

*Easier to eat-* Missing teeth can make it hard for people to chew. Dental implants allow people to enjoy their favorite foods again.

*Improvement in general health-* Teeth are vital for a person’s health also.

There is no need for people to walk around embarrassed because they have teeth that are missing. Teeth in an hour is an easy and simple procedure that can restore a person’s smile and confidence.

As we drink coffee, tea, cola, smoke or age we run the risk of browning our teeth. Normal brushing does help whiten the teeth. We tend to look for alternative tooth whitening products that unfortunately do not work. Zoom however, is one of the few tooth-whitening procedures that give excellent results.

Zoom tooth whitening process is an in-office dentist procedure that uses a light activated whitening gel. It uses Hydrogen Peroxide, which is activated by the Zoom light aids. This enables oxygen enter the tooth enamel and bleach colored substances without affecting the structure of the tooth.

Compared to other methods, Zoom teeth whitening is very effective. You have to apply whitening strips for a long time before you see any results. This goes for at home teeth whitening trays. Zoom on the other hand gives immediate results. The moment you leave the dentist’s chair, you have whiter teeth.

The whitening effects of Zoom are long lasting. We all know that if you stop using a tooth whitening toothpaste, your teeth soon start fading. All you need to do to keep the Zoom smile is to follow simple post-whitening steps that your dentist will provide.

While we may not like dentists, it is better to trust a professional with your teeth. Other processes are self-applied, such as paint on gels and at home trays. The problem with that is that we may misapply the treatment and not get the best results. With Zoom, your tooth whitening is in the hands of a professional dentist who knows more about your teeth.

Zoom teeth whitening has proven to be a safe, comfortable and long lasting procedure that works for almost everyone. For the first time, you do not need to fear going to your dentist as you will come out with a perfect smile.

If you avoid the dentist due to extreme fear, a gag reflex or other reasons, you should know about the benefits of sedation dentistry. There are three different ways to be sedated during a dental appointment, depending on your preference and how your body tolerates it.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

IV Sedation is the most uncommon type of sedation dentistry due to its complexity and the level of training the dentist must have to administer it correctly. The drug is injected directly into your blood stream through a tube, and your dentist can adjust the levels to add more sedating medicine if it does not appear to be working.

Oral sedation is brought about by swallowing a pill given by your dentist. It brings on sleepiness and gives you the ability to relax. You may fall asleep completely. You are aware of your surroundings, but you may not remember much about the appointment.

Inhalation sedation or “laughing gas” is the most typical type of sedation dentistry that is used today. To begin the sedation process, your dentist will place a mask containing sedating medication over your mouth and you will breathe it in. During inhalation sedation, you feel more calm, relaxed and retain all bodily functions.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

In addition to allowing you to relax more and possibly fall asleep, using sedation dentistry has several other benefits. When you are given anesthesia to deal with pain in your teeth, jaws or gums, the use of sedation dentistry increases its effectiveness to make the appointment both pain-free and relaxing. One of the more common reasons that people list for avoiding the dentist is joint and muscle soreness that can occur during the appointment and after patients go home. Using sedation dentistry helps to eliminate that possibility.

If you are undergoing a complex dental procedure, using sedation dentistry can help reduce your total treatment time because you can get through your appointments faster. If you need to go to the dentist but are afraid, know that sedation dentistry can help you get through it with little to memory of the appointment afterwards.
