Fix That Gap in Your Teeth

Gaps can appear between your teeth as they move over time. Typically, braces are used to correct these caps and to straighten the teeth. However, to correct simple gaps you can use porcelain veneer. Veneers are a thin shell of porcelain that can also be used to brighten your teeth. The end results from the use of porcelain is a natural looking smile with no gaps between the teeth.

Benefits

In addition to fixing gaps between your teeth the use of porcelain veneers also has other benefits. These can be used to uneven teeth and bite correction without needing to grind down the teeth. Veneers do not stain easily which means that you do not need to worry about drinking tea or coffee.

Teeth Preparation

Prior to the application of the porcelain veneer onto your teeth they need to be properly prepared. When the decision to use a veneer is made your dentist will need to remove ½ of a millimeter of enamel off of your teeth. This is equal to the total thickness of the porcelain veneer.

Similar to braces, the process of making a porcelain veneer starts with a mold. The mold is then used to create the porcelain veneer that fits over your teeth. Typically, the process for making the veneer is between 1 and 2 weeks. This procedure will typically be completed once the veneer is delivered to your dentist.

Application

Your dentist will fit the completed veneer to your teeth and make sure it fits properly. A strong adhesive is then applied to the veneer before it is set back in place. This adhesive bonds the veneer to your teeth and prevents it from falling off. However, you should be able to see the veneers in place before they are bonded to your teeth.

Disadvantages

The results of the porcelain veneer is not reversible and will cost more than other options for fixing the gap between teeth. You will not be able to chew on hard objects without risking chipping or cracking a veneer. Typically, a chip or crack in a porcelain veneer cannot be easily repaired.
